(vIndianz May 8 2010): The Supreme Court on Friday declared that the Governors cannot be removed according to the change of power. The order was mad by a five- bench Constitution comprising Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justices S H Kapadia, R V Raveendran, B Sudershan Reddy and P Sathasivam.

The order was passed against a five-year old petition filed by former BJP MP BP Singhal demanding the deletion of Governors of UP, Gujarat, Haryana and Goa. The Five- bench Constitution said that a Governor can be replaced only under special circumstances such as and misconducts or misdeeds.
A Governor cannot be replaced just because he or she does not synch with the party in power. They are not just mere employees of the Union Government and is not expected to implement according to the interests of the party in power. Incase a governor is removed on the following grounds it would be considered illegal. The court declared that if any offended governor feel that he or she has been removed on capricious or one’s will, the President would be asked to disclose the valid reason for the same. If the President fails do so, the court would interfere with the matter.
The Supreme Court said that respected elder statesman, administrators and eminent personalities were appointed as Governors. Some of them might have political backgrounds, but once they are appointed they are believed to be loyal and committed to the Constitution and to any political party. The central government had disputed that the governor was a link between the Centre and the State and there should be harmony between the two offices for good supremacy.

New Delhi: In a gesture that could bring cheers to millions of women in the country, the Rajya Sabha, on Tuesday, passed the Women’s Reservation Bill that provides for 33 per cent representation to women in Parliament and state assemblies. The final vote read 186-1.
The session also saw seven members being suspended for disruptive action. Finally, when the House took up the debate at 3 pm, the path was cleared. Before the discussion began, the Chairman put the Constitution (108th Amendment) Bill, granting 33 per cent reservation to women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies, to voice vote but later called for a debate on it. Chairman Hamid Ansari put the bill to voice vote and then called for division of votes. Disruptive elements in the form of Subhash Yadav (RJD), Sabir Ali (LJP), Veerpal Singh Yadav, Nand Kishore Yadav, Amir Alam Khan and Kamal Akhtar (all SP), and Ejaz Ali (Unattached) made proceedings tough, but normalcy was restored after they were evicted.

vIndianz.com (20 Feb, 2010) — Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who drew Shiv Sena’s ire for supporting the inclusion of Pakistani cricketers in the IPL, says he does not understand the “logic” behind the controversy and would have apologised if they had a problem with his film ‘My Name Is Khan’.

The 44-year-old superstar said what hurt him most was the fact that his “Indian-ness” was questioned again and again.

Khan said that he would have apologised to Shiv Sena if the content of his film, released on February 12, was found to be offensive but did not do so because he didn’t understand the “logic” behind their anger.

“If they had a problem with my film, I would have apologised. I have done so earlier because I do not want to offend anyone with my films, my aim is to entertain. But this was about who I am as a person and my Indianness and I was hurt that I had to clarify it again and again,” said Khan in an interaction with a TV channel.

The actor said that he has “great respect” for the Sena leaders but feels that politics and patriotism should not have been mixed with entertainment.

“They are much older than me and I have great respect for them. But I did not understand why was the film dragged in between. I am one of those who believe that entertainment and politics should not be mixed,” he said.

“I did not understand why was my Indian-ness questioned. My father is a freedom fighter and I am proud of that,” he added

vIndianz.com (19 Feb, 2010) — Chennai: A senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader W. R. Varadarajan has gone missing after he was unceremoniously removed from all party posts less than a fortnight ago.

The tall leader from Tamil Nadu has not returned home since February 11, according to his wife in a complaint filed with police in Chennai

The decision to remove Varadarajan, a national secretary of CITU and a central committee member of CPM, from all party posts was taken by the CPM central committee which met in Kolkata in the first week of February. The party, however, did not make its decision public. No reason was given for the removal, according to The Indian Express newspaper.

Reasons related to his personal life and conduct was one reason for Varadarajan’s removal, the report quoted a senior politburo member as saying.

Meanwhile, T. Rajendran, Chennai City Police Commissioner said a special team of the Crime Branch has started investigating into the complaint filed by Varadarajan’s wife Saraswati. Though party leaders and Saraswati had filed complaints with the City Police Commissioner a few days ago, the media learnt of it only on Thursday when a local Tamil weekly published two unsigned letters, purportedly written by `WR’, stating that his body be donated for research and belongings to the party.

The report, published with a screaming headline asking whether the leader had committed suicide, led to wild rumours though police downplayed such theories. According to officials, Varadarajan had a dispute with his wife following which he left home and had not returned since then.

Sources in Tamil Nadu CPM said Varadarajan was expelled following complaints from his wife.
