There are some interesting reports surfacing about Google’s plan to inculcate TV

There are some interesting reports surfacing about Google’s plan to inculcate TV like channels on YouTube. If all goes well, we can have around 24 YouTube TV channels with-in a month. YouTube’s TV addition will be focusing on presenting the entertainment and news content in the conventional Television style.

Google’s ambitious venture will be another attempt from Search-engine giant to present an alternative for TV with live scheduled shows. New channels will not only let Google to provide more professional and ad-friendly content to its subscribers, but also an important ingredient for its Google TV, launched before.

Google TV was on earlier on a tight-spot, when the major studios restricted it from viewing its video content, making it futile for mainstream TV online.
However the Google has now come back bolstered. YouTube channels will be now be packed with premium content from Hollywood Providers. It was lately reported that YouTube has entered into a deal worth $150 million with Warner Bros., Berman Braun, Fremantle Media and Shine Reveille. However, out of two dozens of channels, only ‘Hollywood Reporter’ has reportedly confirmed the proceedings.

Another plan of equipping YouTube with scheduled programs that users can buy & watch, or watch them by the sponsorship of advertisements is also in the pipeline. But this will be a separate initiative, and has no linkage with the live TV content.

Mobile users also have a reason to enjoy, as they will be provided with a rare TV live service integrated with YouTube live channels. They will not be demanded for paid access or cell phone service from a particular provider.

Though Apple presently has a leap over Google, providing paid TV shows via iTunes, no one has yet initiated a free-to-air professional streaming.

(vIndianz June 2, 2010): Google will launch its Chrome Operating System free of cost during the coming autumn season. The new OS from the search giant is being anticipated as a rival to Microsoft’s Windows system.

According to Google, the company is working on launching the OS by this fall season. The company expects the new OS to be picked up by millions of users on the day of launch itself.

The open source operating system is based on the Chrome browser, which is designed to work exclusively with web applications. Google has said that more than 70 million people use the Chrome browser currently.

It however remains to be seen whether Google would really live up to expectations and take on Microsoft with the new operating system. Also, we will have to wait to know if hardware manufacturers will actually go for Chrome-based products.

(Vindianz May 5 2010): Google has confirmed its entry into the digital book market by announcing its online e-book store Google Editions due to be launched in July.
<!--
google_ad_client = "pub-3219823483626028";
/* 468x60, created 3/1/10 */

The new service will not be accompanied by an e-reader such as the Amazon Kindle or the Apple iPad. Instead, users will be able to browse, search and buy digital copies for e-books using their own browser on any device that can be connected to the worldwide web. This move is expected to affect sales of e-reader devices and give tough competition to Amazon and Apple’s online stores. E-books can also be sold by third party retailers on their own websites as Google Editions operates as a B2B service as well.

Google has so far scanned and added 12 million books that are in-print and out-of-print to its database which is larger than that of Apple and Amazon. The company has however, not revealed its revenue-sharing agreement, if any, with book retailers. The current trend among major retailers is to set their own pricing to ensure high margins. While Apple follows this pattern by allowing publishers to do the pricing, Amazon had set its own prices and acquired 70 percent of the profit margin from every e-book for itself. It was forced to reduce this margin to 30 percent after the introduction of the Apple iPad in the market.

The e-book market is a growing market with revenue earned from wholesales in the US tripling in Q3 of 2009 from $13.9 million to $46.4 million. E-reader devices have also duplicated the rise in the e-book market with 2.4 million units of the Kindle being sold with a market share of 55 percent. Apple had also announced the sale of if 1 millionth unit earlier this week.

The decision comes following the Chinese move on Net freedom restrictions and censorships. Go Daddy and Network Solutions LLC are the two companies announcing that they are exiting China
<!--
google_ad_client = "pub-3219823483626028";

While Go Daddy, which runs the world’s largest domain name service, has said it will no longer register new web sites in China, Network Solutions has said it has already stopped handling China Web registrations in December. Both the companies attribute their decision to China’s new website ownership rules, which require holders of .cn domains to provide their personal information, including photographs of themselves to the Chinese government.
Go Daddy has in fact become the first Internet major to publicly follow Google’s example in responding to the Chinese government’s censorship of the Internet by partially retreating from the Chinese government.

vIndianz.com (19 Mar, 2010) — Search giant Google is finally calling it quits in China. According to news reports that have started trickling in, Google will close down its business the communist nation next month.
The Chinese media have started running stories on news that Google would go through with a threatened withdrawal from the country on April 10. though Google hasn’t yet confirmed the revelations, a Chinese advertising agency that has been partnering the US Internet major has been quoted as confirming the news. It is yet to be known whether the company would announce the details of its exit from China and compensation for its local staff.

Google had been voicing its concern over what has been explained as a series of cyber attacks aimed at its source code and the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists. The search giant has continued to filter google.cn results to abide by Chinese censorship demands, but now it has decided to eventually stop the screening s soon as it can.

vIndianz.com (17 Mar, 2010) — Google’s Nexus One has gone head-to-head with Apple’s iPhone as its latest version now sells on the 3G network of mobile carrier AT&T Inc.
<!--
google_ad_client = "pub-3219823483626028";
/* 468x60, created 3/1/10 */

The original version of Nexus One which is still available in the market, worked on T-Mobile’s 3G network as well as At&T’s older network. However, the new version which operates on the faster network and supports At&T’s different 3G frequencies, might give the iPhone a run for its money.

Even though iPhone has a deal with AT&T, making the latter an exclusive carrier, AT&T has figured out that the exclusivity wonÆt last forever. This has prompted the company to extend its services to Android OS-powered phones and Palm Inc. produced phones.

However, AT&T is not selling Nexus One at a subsidized price. It will continue to cost the buyer a full price of $529 which is much higher than the $179 for the T-Mobile subsidized Nexus One and the $99 AT&T subsidized iPhone. Both the deals come with a two year contract period.

AT&T seems open to accepting a compatible device on their network hasnt thrown any light on whether they had discussed the new phone with Google.

Google’s foray into the mobile phone market has definitely troubled the bosses at Apple. HTC Corp, the manufacturer of Nexus One was sued earlier by Apple, citing patent infringement. Although Apple did not name Google in the suit, analysts reckon that the lawsuit could mean a battle on the sidelines between the two companies.

vIndianz.com (20 Feb, 2010) — Seattle: Microsoft Corp’s assault on search engine leader Google Inc took a major step forward on Thursday as US and European regulators cleared the software company’s search partnership with Yahoo Inc.

The 10-year deal, struck last July, is the biggest effort yet by Microsoft to establish an online business to rival Google, an area where Microsoft has lost $5 billion over the last four years.

Microsoft has already made some progress with its search engine, Bing, picking up 3.3 points of market share since its launch last June. But Bing is not likely to “push Google off a very big pedestal any time soon,” said a trade analyst according to Reuters.

The battle for online search ads is only one front on a sprawling war for revenue between Microsoft and Google, which also encompasses operating systems and mobile phones. But neither has yet managed to compete on equal terms in each other’s core market.

vindian.com (Aug. 27, 2009) — Google has announced that it will allow users to download over one million public domain books from Google Books in the EPUB format.

EPUB (electronic publication) is a free and open industry standard for electronic books and it is a lightweight text-based digital book format that allows the text to automatically adjust to smaller screens.

Once you can download the public domain books from Google Books Toolbar, you’ll be able to read it on any device or through any reading application that supports the format.

In addition to Sony Reader, EPUB is supported by some other devices that include the iPhone, Hanlin eReader, Cool-ER and the upcoming Plastic Logic device.

vIndianz.com (Aug. 19, 2009) — Google is finally promising to start its “Project 10 to the 100th” competition within a month or just in time for its 11th anniversary. Project 10 to the 100th is a call for ideas to change the world by helping as many people as possible.

Google said, “Project 10 to the 100th is an attempt to solicit ideas that will change the world. We have committed $10 million to fund up to five ideas selected by our advisory board.

“We received over 150,000 ideas from users which far surpassed our expectations,” said Jamie Wood, a Google spokesman.

Wood promised that Google would announce the next phase of the competition within a month. That will likely involve the release of 100 proposals for the public to vote on and choose 20 finalists, from which a Google board will choose the five lucky winners.

The process to join in this project is simple. Send your idea by October 20th. By voting- they’ll post a selection of 100 ideas and ask you, the public, to choose twenty semi-finalists. Then an advisory board will select up to five final ideas. And the last they will bring these ideas to life by committing $10 million to implement these projects.

They ask you to put your idea into one of the following categories and consider the evaluation criteria below.

Categories:

    * Community: How can we help connect people, build communities and protect unique cultures?
* Opportunity: How can we help people better provide for themselves and their families?
* Energy: How can we help move the world toward safe, clean, inexpensive energy?
* Environment: How can we help promote a cleaner and more sustainable global ecosystem?
* Health: How can we help individuals lead longer, healthier lives?
* Education: How can we help more people get more access to better education?
* Shelter: How can we help ensure that everyone has a safe place to live?
* Everything else: Sometimes the best ideas don’t fit into any category at all.

Criteria:

    * Reach: How many people would this idea affect?
* Depth: How deeply are people impacted? How urgent is the need?
* Attainability: Can this idea be implemented within a year or two?
* Efficiency: How simple and cost-effective is your idea?
* Longevity: How long will the idea’s impact last?
