Sania to quit tennis

vIndianz.com (18 Jan, 2010) — Sania’s latest revelation shall lead to great disappointment for tennis fans across the country. Sania’s well wishers were very happy to learn that their favorite tennis star is going to get married but her latest revelation most of them shall be disappointed.

sania-mirza India’s most triumphant female tennis player Sania Mirza on Thursday revealed that she will hang up her racquet after getting wedded.

Sania, who got engaged to childhood buddy Sohrab Mirza in July 2009, did not elaborate when she plans to get married but said she will bid farewell to the sport after tying the marriage knot.

“As of now, I don’t propose to play professionally subsequent to marriage but that is still some time away,” Sania told PTI.

Prior to getting engaged to the Indian tennis diva, Sohrab had said that Sania will have total liberty in making her career decisions.

“She has my total support and assistance in whatever she wishes. It is totally her decision for how long she wishes to play,” Sohrab had told PTI in June.

So when asked if it was only her decision to give up the game after marriage, Sania’s father Imran Mirza said, “It’s her decision for now. If later she decides to play after marriage, it’s her choice.”

Ever since turning pro in 2003, Sania has been the face of Indian tennis on the WTA circuit.

She in addition became India’s first female Grand Slam winner when she won the Australian Open mixed doubles title with compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi last year.

Now whether Sania fans will get to see her playing the game after marriage or not only time will tell. So they just have to wait and watch!!!!
