vIndianz.com (24 Nov, 2009) — Three UK groups studying climate change have issued an unparalleled report about the dangers of failing to slash emissions of greenhouse gases. The Royal Society, Met Office, and Natural Environment Research Council say the science groundwork climate change is more distressing than ever.
They state the 2007 UK floods, 2003 heat wave in Europe and latest droughts were dependable with promising patterns. In a report calling for action to slash carbon emissions, institutions said proof for “hazardous, long-term and potentially unalterable climate change” was mounting.
Global carbon dioxide levels have sustained to increase, Arctic summer ice cover declined penetratingly in 2007 and 2008, and the last decade has been the warmest on average for 150 years. Unrelenting drought in Australia and increasing sea levels in the Maldives were additional indicators of likely future patterns, they said.
They squabble that without action there would be much bigger changes in the upcoming decades, with the UK seeing higher food prices, ill health, more flooding and rising sea levels. Known or likely damage across the world includes ocean acidification, loss of rainforests, degradation of ecosystems and desertification, they said.
