vIndianz.com (25 Feb, 2010) — Mumbai: The police are struggling to explain the manner in which BARC scientist M Padmanabhan Iyer, 48, who died on Monday night and are still unable to find an external head injury to connect with the internal haemorrhaging of his skull. And the police are now planning to seek medical opinion.
The police are investigating possible clues found at the house: used plates, alcohol bottles, an opened pack of condoms and pornographic material. They are matching two sets of fingerprints, found on a glass, with those of Iyer’s acquaintances.
The presence of condoms, alcohol, pornographic material and photo graphs of male models have raised question marks on whether Iyer was a gay and if the murder had a sex angle to it.
“Another mystery is regarding the victim himself. It seems he kept so much to himself that even the people working closely with him did not know his full name. The guard at the building has told us the last time Iyer was seen was on Saturday, around midnight, when he came home in a taxi. He had a holiday on Saturday, so we don’t know where he had come from that late. He did not seem to have any close friends and was not known for socialising much with any one at work or in his locality,” a police official said.
A police officer said the used plates suggest Iyer had had dinner with some people that night.
“We found some liquor bottles in the cupboard and some pornographic videos in his house besides cassettes of devotional regional songs and stack of postcard-sized photographs of foreign male models. A pack of condom with two condoms taken out was found near a table in the room where he
was found dead.”
The officer added, “The post mortem has not shown any sign of sexual intercourse. We are probing the possibility that the cord around his neck might have been a kinky experiment. The cord is not strong enough to kill anyone, but there were marks on his throat.”
