(vIndianz April 16 2010): Israel has declared a ban on importing Apple’s latest product, the iPad. Authorities reason that the device, with its powerful WiFi signal, could interfere with other devices and bump them off the network.

About 10 Apple iPads have already been confiscated by Israeli customs officials since the ban. Nati Schubert, a senior deputy director in the Communications Ministry said that interference problems may rise when equipment operating on a particular frequency band is introduced among other equipment operating on another frequency band. He stressed on the need for proper regulation to solve the problem.
The same problem may not occur in US where the WiFi broadcasting at power levels higher than that in Europe and Israel is permitted by the US Federal Communications Commission. However, Israel is the only country in Europe to impose a ban on iPad imports despite the WiFi standard being similar throughout Europe. Israel has clarified that the ban is not connected to trade and is just a precaution against iPad disturbing wireless networks in the country.
The iPads in the possession of customs will be held by them for a daily storage fee till the departure of the owners from the country or till the owners send the gadget back to their country at their own expense.
The iPad, with the features of a notebook pc and touchpad, has been on sale in the US since April 3. Its heavy sales in the US have prompted Apple to delay international sales till May 10.
