vIndianz.com (30 Oct, 2009) — Days subsequent to the FBI busted Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba’s plan to carry out terrorist assault in India by means of an American national, the United States asked its people to stay vigilant throughout their journey to India.
“The US Government continues to obtain information that terrorist groups might be setting up attacks in India,” the State Department said in its newest travel alert on India. This replaces a comparable travel alert issued by the State Department previous to the beginning of the celebration season.
“Terrorists and their sympathizers have confirmed their keenness and competence to assault targets where Americans or Westerners are recognized to gather together or visit,” the Bureau of Consular Affairs of the State Department said.
Stating that the most recent travel alert remains applicable till January 28, next year, the department said the Mumbai terror attacks in November last provided a dramatic reminder that hotels and other public places are targets for terrorist groups.
“US citizens are urged constantly to practice good safety measures, sustain a sensitive situational consciousness and a low profile,” the alert said.
“Americans are advised to supervise local news reports and think about the intensity of security at hand when visiting public places, counting religious sites, or choosing hotels, restaurants, entertainment and leisure venues,” it said.
FBI had said yesterday that 49-year-old David Coleman Headley, who was under arrest early this month along with a Canadian of Pakistan origin, was in close contact with LeT leaders and helping the group in preparation of a terror assault in India.
