vIndianz.com (16 Mar, 2010) — Kolkata: Sexual minority groups in Kolkata are seeking reservation in the fields such as health, education and employment. Gays, lesbians, Transgender and bisexuals are included in the sexual minority groups. An organization that stands for the sexual minority welfare named Manas Bangla very strongly supports the reservation agenda.
It is being urged that sex workers deserve reservation because most of the people hail from poor economic background .Kunal Choudhury, a gay and an activist, also called for the need to secure basic rights in the society.
Faiyaz Ahmed Khan, member of the mayor-in-council, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, has welcomed the sexual minorities to contest elections. He added that they can contest elections only in general seats.
