vIndianz.com (9 Feb, 2010) — Chandigarh: Ruchika case saga took a ‘bloody’ turn on Monday. Former Haryana DGP S P S Rathore was hurt after a student of the prestigious National Institute of Design repeatedly slashed his neck and face with a knife and leaving the molestor cop’s face bloodied at a courtroom.
Police said that the man, identified as Utsav Sharma, 29 and a native of Varanasi, was a mental patient who was under treatment in Ahmedabad. Sharma was angry with the mild six-month punishment given to the ex-cop for molesting budding tennis player Ruchika Girhtora.
Sharma entered the court premises posing as a journalist and attacked Rathore when the cop emerged from the courtroom around 1pm. Defence counsel N D Sharma, who tried to shield Rathore, was also wounded.
Rathore returned to the court in the afternoon with his wounds bandaged, saying he was fit enough to attend the hearing.
Later the court directed that further hearings be held in-camera and only the counsels for defence, prosecution and CBI be allowed into the courtroom.
Sharma has been charged for causing hurt with dangerous weapon. Rathore did not file any complaint against Sharma who was staying in Panchkula to shoot a documentary on the Ruchika saga.
