vIndianz.com (Dec. 07, 2009) — Rahul Gandhi on acting with students Aligarh Muslim University. This is the Congress General Secretary’s primary visit to the University, where he will meet up prospective Youth Congress candidates.
Chosen students were permitted into the auditorium to listen to Gandhi’s speech, and to ask him questions. Screens outside the auditorium put on air the communication for the rest of the campus.
The Congress general secretary continues to come across a new generation of leaders. A girl student asked when the nation would have a Muslim Prime Minister and Gandhi lobbed the ball right back to her saying: “You require stepping up and being leaders.”
Rahul then pointed out that Manmohan Singh was a Sikh prime minister. He was not PM for the reason that he was a Sikh, but as he was the most competent individual for that post, he said. “It’s not in relation to your religion; it’s with reference to what you get to the table.” He said when a Muslim became PM; he would be the PM of the entire country.
He said he grew up in a family where caste, religion were immaterial. “I don’t see caste, I see Indians…” He did, nevertheless, stress that the contribution of people in politics was significant. “Thought of leadership I get from Gandhi…to produce leaders. All of you have a dream and we require that.”
He said he was looking into the Sachar Committee recommendations, adding up that the circumstances enhanced when political contribution of community augmented.
He too promised to take up the troubles of minority institutions with the Prime Minister.
