(vIndianz May 19 2010): The trailer of the most awaited Mani Ratnam bilingual movie, Raavan/Ravannan, was screened at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival. Suhasini Mani Ratnam, the film’s co-producer and dialogue writer for the Tamil versin, represented her husband at the Cannes film festival. She said at the press conference that Mani Ratnam was trying to blend Hindi and regional (Tamil) cinema. Amit Khanna of Reliance Big Pictures, the producer of the film has expressed that Mani Ratnam is the best Indian director living today. He also said they believed in taking such rare movies like Raavan/Raavanan. Suhasini said that the music scored by A R Rahman , merged beautifully with the story and that the songs played an important role in the film and takes the plot forward. The movie is inspired from the great epic Ramayanam, though it is not a take off on that. The film portrays Dev and his wife Ragini, a classical dancer, whose trials begin when Dev takes up a new posting in a small north Indian town. The movie was shot in both the languages simultaneously by Ratnam, something he has never attempted before. Aiswarya and Vikram appear in both the versions while Abhishek portrays in the Hindi version. Vikram and Aishwarya said their roles in the film was really challenging, difficult and really exhausting. But in the end the entire crew found it exciting and satisfying. Vikram dubbed for the Hindi version and Aishwarya for the Tamil version. Both the films are said to release in 58 countries in mid-June.
