(vIndianz may 8 2010): Playboy Enterprises Inc. has announced that it will launch a safe-for-work website that will contain the non-pictorial content from its exclusive adult magazine, Playboy.

With the launch of the free site TheSmokingJacket.com, Playboy aims to take its text content from the magazine to workplaces. As the site does not have any pictures or images, it may be listed as a safe-for-work site.
The new site will give competition to Playboy’s rivals such as Maxim, Stuff and Esquire, which have led readers away from Playboy’s reader base in the last decade. It is also tipped to be a copy of the Playboy website, but without the images. The new website could turn into a method for the company to earn advertising revenue as well.
Playboy is currently facing issues such as restructuring costs and reduced readership for its magazine. The company recently revealed that profit gained from its print and digital content was reduced by 30 percent in the first quarter. The total revenue of the company also declined by 15 percent to end up at $ 52.1 million.
The company is now looking at methods such as finding licensing partners or outsourcing some of their operations, according to Playboy CEO Scott Flanders.
There has been no official information regarding the launch date for Playboy’s new website. However, the company will continue to invest in its digital ventures including a version of the Playboy TV room that will be available on mobile phones, and pre-paid subscription plans for its website. The company has already been operating a new interactive chat site since February.
