vIndianz.com (17 Mar, 2010) — Mumbai: The interrogation of the two terror suspects arrested in Mumbai on Saturday revealed that Pakistan was back to using its links with the underworld to plan terror attacks on India.
The arrested duo, Abdul Latif Rashid alias Guddu and Riyaz Ali Imtiaz alias Rehan, were arrested as they conspired to set ablaze the ONGC office in Bandra, Mangaldas Market in Kalbadevi and Thakkar mall in Borivili. Abdul Latif’s uncle is an accused in the 1993 serial blasts case and is currently absconding. He is said to be living in Karachi with Dawood Ibrahim, the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai blasts.
While Indian security agencies have always maintained that Pakistan’s ISI is employing the services of Dawood Ibrahim and his men to spread terror in India, the recent case has further strengthened this belief. The arrested duo revealed that they were under orders from a member of the Dawood gang to recruit youth for further training as terrorists in Pakistan.
Even though Pakistani jihadist groups had recently turned to hiring professionals with no criminal records for their activities, officials say that they might have turned to the underworld as the police no longer tend to link gangsters and terrorism together.
