vIdianz.com (Dec. 05, 2009) — In quest to downplay the latest Chinese opposition to a road construction in Ladakh’s Demchok area near the LAC, India on Saturday said it was a product of the “conflicting perceptions” of the Line of Actual Control among the two countries and has by now been taken up with the Chinese side.
It too hoped that both the sides will as well be capable to decide upon all issues pertaining to border dispute peacefully.
“It has been taken up with the Chinese side through one of the flag-meetings that we have at the ground level. Let me say, that the entire matter of the conflicting perceptions of LAC in the region about Demchok has been taken up at several occasions with the Chinese side,” foreign secretary Nirupama Rao said when asked regarding the recent Chinese objection.
The authorities in Jammu and Kashmir only just said that they have stopped up building of an 8 km road in the isolated Demchok area of Buddhist-dominated Ladakh near the LAC after objections from the Chinese army.
She said, “This is not a fresh issue that has cropped up in the dialogue involving the boundary discussions among India and China”.
Rao said together India and China are conscious that there are dissimilar perceptions of LAC and were functioning through appropriate mechanism to resolve all such disputes.
Asked about the fresh media reports that ULFA leader Prakash Barua was in China and if India has made any demand for his extradition, Rao said “Barua is hunted in India for crime against State…”
“And we persist to look for his extradition and we are in touch with our neighbors about these matters. And we look forward to all our neighbors to behave maturely on these issues.”
