vIndianz.com (21 Jan, 2010) — Kochi: A division bench of the Kerala High Court has ordered Central Bureau Investigation probe into the Paul M. George murder case on Thursday.
The murder on August 22 has gripped Kerala for weeks.
The bench comprising Kerala Chief Justice S. R. Bannurmath, who is retiring soon, and Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan issued the directive while allowing a writ petition filed by M.G. George (Muthoot group), father of Paul M. George, seeking CBI investigation into the case.
The court directed the CBI to complete the investigation within six months.
The Muthoot family had submitted in the court that Kerala police had not properly recorded their statements, and had ‘omitted relevant parts from their statements.’
The bench also criticised top police official Vinson M Paul, who headed the special investigation team (SIT), for conducting a press meet with regard to the investigation in the case.
Paul Muthoot, 30, a scion of the multi-crore Muthoot group with diverse business interests, including finance and hospitality sectors was heading the hospitality division when he was murdered.
The SIT had filed chargesheet in Ramankiri court in Alapuzha, listing 25 accused in the case. The magistrate had returned the charge sheet saying it was incomplete. However, the high court had stayed the order on an appeal by the state government.
Paul’s father had filed the petition expressing dissatisfaction at the police investigation, and seeking CBI probe.
