vIndianz.com (15 Dec, 2009) — The Afghan Public Health Ministry says five people were killed and 31 others injured in a suicide car bombing in a heavily guarded locality in the Afghan capital.
The blast on Tuesday occurred close to a hotel favored by Westerners; however it was uncertain if the hotel was the target.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai said the explosion occurred close to the home of his ex- first vice president, Ahmed Zia Massoud. Throughout a speech at a conference on corruption, Karzai said two of Massoud’s guards were amongst those killed in the explosion.
The hotel was only to some extent damaged. Three homes close to the hotel were severely damaged and windows in nearby buildings were devastated.
