vIndianz.com (Dec. 08, 2009) — India will officially accuse David Coleman Headley in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack scheme, Union Home Ministry sources have told CNN-IBN.

india-palaceSources said that National Investigating Agency (NIA) and Mumbai Police will be filing an accompanying charge sheet in the 26/11 case against Headley. The charge sheet will be filed in the next one month in a Mumbai court.

India will in addition get access to Headley and he is expected to be extradited from the United States of America where on Monday he was charged by Federal Bureau of Investigation of being involved in setting up the 26/11 attacks.

Headley, who will be presented ahead of a US district judge at a Chicago court on Wednesday, faces 10 charges in association with the 26/11 plot. The charges against Headley comprise of plot to attack public places in India, which can even provoke the death penalty if convicted.

The alleged Laskhar-e-Toiba activist in addition faces the allegation of conspiring to murder and mutilate in India and has too been charged with assassination of six American nationals in India.

His suspected partner in crime Tahawwur Rana and a third man, Abdur Rehman Hashim Syed, was previously charged with scheming a terror attack in Denmark. Both Rana and Syed, who is former Major of the Pakistan Army, are Pakistan-born and then immigrated to the US and Canada.

Major (retd) Syed is in police detention in Pakistan and it’s probable he will be questioned by the FBI. Headley apparently travelled to Pakistan after observation trips to India handing over photos and video to terror groups there.

Court papers also charge that Headley conducted wide-ranging surveillance of targets for over two years prior to Mumbai terror attacks. The FBI team visiting India will too be going to Pakistan for additional investigations.

In the meantime, US State Department Spokesperson Ian Kelly says the FBI is giving out all information on Headley with India

“The US Department of Justice and FBI sent a briefing team that shared information with their Indian counterparts and information disclosed by Headley connecting to his supposed role in 26/11,” said Kelly.
