vIndianz.com(14 Jan, 2010) — Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor today announced that cross-border infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir in 2009 registered a comparative increase.
He additionally said that infrastructure of terror outfits in use from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir remains undamaged and 700 terrorists are waiting to cross the Line of Control (LOC).
“The terror infrastructure across the LOC is very much undamaged and all-out hard work is being made to push inside as many infiltrators as doable. However mild violent incidents have gone down, the attempts of infiltration have gone up,” General Kapoor said.
Talking at his yearly conference prior to Army Day on Friday, The Army Chief said: “In 2009, the infiltration was higher. Though 57 people infiltrated in 2008, the number rose to 110 by November 2009.”
Commenting on decline of troops in Jammu and Kashmir, he said the verdict to reduce the troops has been taken after all considerations.
General Kapoor further added that present troop level is sufficient to make sure of passive surroundings in the face of attempts of turmoil from other side of the border.
