vIndianz.com (19 Mar, 2010) — Search giant Google is finally calling it quits in China. According to news reports that have started trickling in, Google will close down its business the communist nation next month.
Controversies over censorship and hacking had pushed Google to the brink. The Chinese media have started running stories on news that Google would go through with a threatened withdrawal from the country on April 10. though Google hasn’t yet confirmed the revelations, a Chinese advertising agency that has been partnering the US Internet major has been quoted as confirming the news. It is yet to be known whether the company would announce the details of its exit from China and compensation for its local staff.
Google had been voicing its concern over what has been explained as a series of cyber attacks aimed at its source code and the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists. The search giant has continued to filter google.cn results to abide by Chinese censorship demands, but now it has decided to eventually stop the screening s soon as it can.
