George Bush supports UNSC seat for India

vIndianz.com (31 Oct, 2009) — Ex-US president George W Bush favored a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) seat for India, saying on Saturday that India has “arrived” as a strong democratic nation in the world.

George W. BushHe too sought after India and the US to work mutually to be triumphant against the war on terror in Afghanistan to bring tranquility and steadiness in the area.

“We must see the likelihood of a seat for India in the United Nations Security Council,” Bush said, talking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in New Delhi.

“India has arrived as a strong democratic country in the world. It is a open-minded, diplomatic and multi-religious democracy,” he said.

Bush, who visited India in 2006 when the two sides chartered out the road map for additional amplification Indo-US strategic partnership, said the two countries shared the identical principles of freedom and democracy.

On Afghanistan, he said, “America and India should work mutually to win the war in Afghanistan. The undertaking in Afghanistan has been lengthy and complicated and expensive. I suppose it is essential for steadiness and tranquility.”

He enthusiastically settled with US President Barack Obama that the US-India relationships were not only one of the most important ties in the world, but they must too be one of the finest.

But he cautioned that it would not take place without human intervention and the two nations would have to make significant choices, counting cooperation in the war in Afghanistan.
