(vIndianz April 17 2010): CEO of Dreamworks Animation Studio Jeffrey Katzenberg has unveiled plans to follow the May 21 3D release of Shrek Forever After with conversions of its prequels into 3D as well.

Shrek 1,2 and 3 would be re-released as a 3D Blu-Ray Disc after conversion.
Speaking at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention in Las Vegas, Katzenberg explained that the exercise of converting the existing digital files of the movies from 2D to 3D could cost more than 20 million for each film and could take as long as 18 months. The end result, however, would be of very high quality.
The investment in innovative technology to convert 2D into 3D and make improvements in the stereo process is being made by the studio in the hope that 3D films for home entertainment could become a reality in a year or two.
Similar attempts were also being made by George Lucas to convert Star Wars and James Cameron to test the 3D conversion of Titanic.
Regarding 3D technology, Katzenberg said that handheld devices capable of 3D visual output could become a reality soon, but perfecting the technology to view 3D movies and billboards without glasses would still take about 15 years.
