Talking at an International summit on climate change in London, Mr. Brown stated that world leaders should agree a deal to stop global warming.

He said failure to attempt the difficulty would not only consequence in hundreds of thousands of deaths annually owing to floods and droughts, except a greater economic crisis than the current recession.

The danger is not only humanitarian and environmental; it is as well an economic one. Failure to evade the most horrible effects of climate change can lead to global GDP being up to 20 per cent lesser than it or else would be – an economic cost bigger than the losses caused by two World Wars and the Great Depression. Let us be in no uncertainty then that this is a reflective instant for our world – a time of significant choice.”

The UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December will bring together 190 countries to concur a fresh deal on tackling global warming.

Nevertheless presently talks are at standstill since rich countries like the US won’t sign up to severe targets to slash carbon emissions, whilst developing nations like China decline to take action until the super powers acquire the lead.

“Over the remaining seven weeks to Copenhagen, and in the two weeks of the conference itself, I will work tirelessly with my fellow leaders to negotiate a deal. I have said I will go to Copenhagen to conclude it – and I am encouraging them to make the same commitment.”

Mr. Brown stated rich nations require entrusting to slash greenhouse gas emissions by between 25 to 40 per cent by 2020. Simultaneously, fast-emerging economies like China and India, which are amongst biggest polluters in the 21st century, must begin concrete proposals to limit the harm caused by their individual fast development.

He said rich countries, includes Britain, must also contribute to an annual fund of £60 billion to help deprived countries acclimatize to climate change and change to a low carbon economy.
