vIndianz.com (Oct. 21, 2009) — On a day when China once all over again needled India on the Dalai Lama’s planned trip to Arunachal Pradesh, the PMO actually determined carefulness was the enhanced part of spirit.
PM Manmohan Singh did settle on the want for superior watchfulness in respect of China throughout his address to the top military brass, at the mutual commanders’ conference at this time on Tuesday, but all references to the country were concealed out in the “extracts” of his speech later unrestricted to the media.
This indicator of the enduring ultra-defensive frame of mind vis-a-vis China came even while the PM himself, as one senior military officer put it, did not say “anything earth-shattering”.
All that the PM declared was that India desired to stay watchful and take needed steps to bolster developmental work beside the Sino-Indian boundary, in an obvious indication to China’s enormous build-up of military infrastructure all beside the 4,057-km Line of Actual Control.
“The PM also talked regarding the `complex relationship’ India had with China. He said there was continuing procedure to put together political trust and determine border issues with China but that it would take some time,” said a source.
Remarkably enough, even references to Pakistan were deleted from the parts of the PM’s dialogue which were made public. While over-cautiousness is nearly constantly on display as far as China is concerned, the government does not generally withdraw away from conversation about Pakistan’s role in aiding and abetting cross-border terrorism.
