vIndianz.com (14 Dec, 2009) — The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has called off its Bandh from 6 pm today. It had called for a four-day Bandh in Darjeeling this morning onwards.
The Gorkha group, which is spearheading a transformed campaigning for a separate state of Gorkhaland, called off the strike after some senior leaders met the BJP leadership in Delhi. The BJP leaders assured them they would take up the Gorkhaland problem, but asked them to call off the Bandh.
The Bandh had been called in the three hill subdivisions of Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong and came just days after the Centre announced that it would commence the process for the development of a separate Telangana state.
All the issues which were buried inside for so long regarding separate states have begun to emerge with the Telangana issue .
