vIndianz.com (28 Oct, 2009) — A poor, innocent and helpless two and a half-year-old leopard was rescued after almost 40 hours of being trapped in a dry well in a village in the outskirts of Jaipur. The leopard fell into an old deserted well of a fortress called Madhogarh on Monday night.
The entire Tuesday morning forest authorities tried to save the creature by lowering a net and with meat as a temptation to catch him into the net so he may perhaps be pulled out although it all the hard work went in vain.
At last experts from Sariska had to be called in to save the animal; they lowered a stepladder into the well and then injected a tranquilser at him, once the animal was tranquilized he was pulled out uninjured. He will now be freed into the Sariska forest from where he appears to have strayed by mistake.
It took almost 40 hours to save the animal since the diameter of the well was exceedingly small and the animal would hide in the small nooks and crannies within the well making it complicated to find him. But experts say the creature is uninjured and in good condition notwithstanding his extended stay in the well.
“The cat family is excellent at jumping so even when landing in the borewell he remained uninjured,” said Subjhojeet Bhattacharya, volunteer and wildlife researcher, Sariska.
