vIndianz.com (Dec. 07, 2009) Students at Osmania University have allegedly been lathi-charged on the second day of a bandh called by those who wish for a separate state of Telangana. Security had been augmented at Osmania University as a safety measure all through the bandh.
Students asked the police at the university to go away from their campus today. That demand erupted into violent behavior. Osmania University has been closed till the 18th of December subsequent to students set quite a lot of trucks on fire last Monday. Those scenes brought back reminiscences of the late 60s and early 70s when Osmania University was the epicenter of an aggressive campaigning for a separate Telangana state.
The second day of the Telangana bandh too saw 90,000 coal mine workers at Singerani Colleries in Karimnagar District boycotting work. All trains to Delhi were as well stopped among Kazipet and Balharshah stations by thousands of people sitting on the tracks.
The Telangana movement is being led by K Chandrasekhara Rao, the chief of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS). Last week, Rao began a hunger fast and was then under arrest; fuming TRS workers then attacked public property. KCR was moved to a Hyderabad hospital previous week so that he can be personally monitored. The government anticipates an aggressive reaction to any news that suggests Rao’s wellbeing is worsening.
On Sunday night, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah called on KCR and appealed him to stop his fast. But Rao discarded that request. He says he wants the Prime Minister to guarantee him that his demand for a separate state will be met.
