Google Offers 1 Million Free Ebooks in EPUB Format

vindian.com (Aug. 27, 2009) — Google has announced that it will allow users to download over one million public domain books from Google Books in the EPUB format.

google_logoEPUB (electronic publication) is a free and open industry standard for electronic books and it is a lightweight text-based digital book format that allows the text to automatically adjust to smaller screens.

Once you can download the public domain books from Google Books Toolbar, you’ll be able to read it on any device or through any reading application that supports the format.

In addition to Sony Reader, EPUB is supported by some other devices that include the iPhone, Hanlin eReader, Cool-ER and the upcoming Plastic Logic device.
