vIndianz.com (6 Mar, 2010) — Washington: Four Indians including Bangalored-base Biocon’s Chief Executive Officer Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Rohini Nilekani, wife of IT major Infosys’ co-founder Nandan Nilekanihave made it to the Forbes’ list of Asia Pacific’s 48 ‘Heroes Of Philanthropy’.
The other Indian women featured on the list of the region’s most prominent altruists, compiled by Forbes Asia magazine, were Anu Aga of Thermax and Kiran Nadar, wife of HCL Technologies co-founder Shiv Nadar.
Rohini Nilekani, who supports many NGO activities, has featured in the list for the second consecutive year by donating a whopping $40 million. According to Forbes: “Rohini has donated $40 million over the years to supporting causes such as education, microfinance, health care and environment”.
The list was compiled on the basis of their contribution to causes like disaster relief, education, health, culture and sciences.
Last year, the list included telecom czar Sunil Mittal, NRI businessman Anil Agarwal and HCL Technologies Chairman Shiv Nadar.
Actor Jackie Chan, who has donated $730,000 to the United Nations and the families of eight Chinese peace-makers, who died in Haiti earthquake is one of the high-profile givers.
Others on the list were Rupert Murdoch’s mother Dame Elisabeth Murdoch and Chen Shu-Chu, a vegetable vendor from Taiwan.
